The first public release of PVM was version 2.0 in February 1991; the first PVM release from Oak Ridge National Laboratory that supported the Windows operating system was version 3.4 (beta 5) at the end of 1997 and then with the formal release of PVM version 3.4.0 in January 1999. While this initial release provided the PVM framework and functionality to the Windows world, there were a number o...
متن کاملRecent Enhancements To Pvm
This paper presents new features of PVM, a popular standard for writing parallel programs which execute over networks of heterogeneous machines. Although PVM has become an important infrastructure for parallel programmers, we continue to develop the system based both on user feedback and our own research interests. In this paper we present new communications routines and brieey characterize the...
متن کاملObject Recognition in Probabilistic 3-d Volumetric Scenes
A new representation of 3-d object appearance from video sequences has been developed over the past several years (Pollard and Mundy, 2007; Pollard, 2008; Crispell, 2010), which combines the ideas of background modeling and volumetric multi-view reconstruction. In this representation, Gaussian mixture models for intensity or color are stored in volumetric units. This 3-d probabilistic volume mo...
متن کاملIntegrating Coordination Features in PVM
In this paper we focus on coordination for parallel systems controlled by the PVM software package. We describe several extensions which allow the use of extended coordination features in PVM. The extensions are designed to support coordination metaphors like gener-ative communication or client server programming. They t into the general philosophy of PVM by adopting an approach to coordination...
متن کاملPM-PVM: A Portable Multithreaded PVM
PM-PVM is a portable implementation of PVM designed to work on SMP architectures supporting multithreading. PM-PVM portability is achieved through the implementation of the PVM functionality on top of a reduced set of parallel programming primitives. Within PM-PVM, PVM tasks are mapped onto threads and the message passing functions are implemented using shared memory. Three implementation apppr...
